What comes around... comes around again

Bella came to us on a west wind. She was hanging off one of the shingles and peering in though our window to check us out. After deciding that she liked what she saw, she flew though our window and chose us as her new family. We put up fliers all over the neighborhood, and posted an ad in Craigslist.

The window that she flew in is usually open, and for over two years, she had never shown any interest in flying out of it. That was true until a couple of weeks ago. For some reason, Bella decided she needed to explore, or chat with the neighborhood birds, and went out the opened window.

For the rest of the evening, Adrienne tried to coax her out of a tree down the street. We would leave the same window open for the next few nights, hoping she would find her way home before she froze her tail off. Being a tropical bird in origin, her species doesn't do well in cold weather, and the kids were sure that she wasn't coming back.

Four days later I found a post on Craigslist from someone in the neighborhood giving temporary shelter to an obviously tame bird. Sure enough, Bella had once again found herself some good people who would house and feed her. And once again, she had found her way back to our home.

I guess this means she belongs here with us.
